Wanted: Best bloggers in Amarillo

Time magazine recently posted a story on its web site about what it considers to be the 25 best blogs (and five most overrated blogs).

The list made me wonder who in Amarillo and the surrounding area is doing a blog and which ones are really good.

A few weeks ago, our columnist Jon Mark Beilue launched a blog and he's doing a great job with it. Editorial page editor John Kanelis is doing one as well. And there will be more to come from those who work on our web site amarillo.com.

I'm aware of a couple of local blogs: Panhandle Truth Squad is the champion for the local liberal voice and loves to poke fun at the newspaper (and sometimes it is funny).

Another good blog is done by local author Jason Boyett, who comments about religion, his series of Pocket Guide books and his life as a writer (and many other things that he does).

Do you know of good local blogs? If so, please post a comment with a link.

We're looking at launching a new community commenting web site soon that would allow commenting as well as links to local blogs.

  1. I would like to nominate my co-worker Dr. Nick Gerlich at http://buffbusiness.com/ It is a group blog but Nick does most of the work. An excellent read for marketing, economics and pop culture for the panhandle and the rest of the world.

  3. I would like to introduce you to Travis Erwin. His blog One Word, One Rung, One Day chronicles his life, his writing and things happening around the world. Every Monday, he posts a blog titled My Town Mondays where he enlightens readers on points of interest around the panhandle and links it to others around the world who post their own version. Recently, Travis and his family lost their home to fire, and even through the tragedy, he kept up with his blog, sharing his life and joy with his readers. A fund was set up by a fellow blogger to donate to his family and it was a huge success. Travis is a wonderful author and a great friend to anyone who needs help. His blog can be found at:

  5. I would recommend the Amarillo College blog as well- but maybe I'm biased. AC allows us to share OUR feelings about things related to the college or in general, and we aren't obligated to promote certain things about AC.
