A great loss to the arts community

Extremely sad news today with the story of the passing of David Simpson.

I met David several years ago when his company, 4th Wall Ltd., created and produced the show that opened the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

The show met its goal of showing off the new performance hall and showcasing the immense talent in the Amarillo area.

Since then, he had worked for the Lone Star Ballet as production manager.

His genius was shown most recently as part of the creation of a new production call TimeSteps, which was performed just a few weeks ago at the Globe-News Center.

It was an event that used dance to tell the story of music and history for a 30-year time span. The production combined dance, video and music to relive the past and give perhaps a new meaning to the music.

The biography of David on the Lone Star Ballet's web site tells about his body of work.

He's worked all over the world and could have lived anywhere. But in the last few years, he made Amarillo home and shared his talents through The New Nutcracker and many other productions.

He will be missed.
