When I asked about the content of the announcement, that is, I asked if had there been cases discovered, she said she didn't know. She was told simply to call to let media members know of the news conference. Without some information about the content, I felt the city was manipulating the media. I predicted that the announcement would be a non-event either announcing possible cases or announcing there were no cases but we still made it to wash our hands and cover our mouth when we sneeze.

I was right. It was a non-event. . Possible cases? Samples sent to laboratories? Why didn't they just tell us they're a bunch of people in town sneezing, having sore throats and running a slight fever. Good grief, we had a long choir practice last night and I woke up with a sore throat. Should I run out and get a quick test?

So, reconcile your post with the wall-to-wall spew of the flu on the AGN Web site.

Oh, and the stethoscope? It’s a status symbol to show us all he’s a real doctor, the health authority and one who must be obeyed. Many bloggers are the guys who used to write graffiti on the bathroom walls. Now they can write it on the Internet and everyone can see it. And yes, they do stir something up and some may draw an audience.

But there are blogs that can provide inside information about an issue. A blog can share information about a story that wasn't in the paper. A blog can be for laughs. Many blogs speicialize in an area. A blog can be about a person's interests. A blog can and should be much more than molotov cocktails thrown into the world of online.

And unfortunately, when you are with the newspaper or the president of WT or someone else who does a blog, you're not in a position to write just whatever you think. The Internet world needs more journalistic standards, not less.

The bottom line is there are many other types of blogs than the atomic bomb variety. I thought you would have known that. Do I have to teach you everything? :)Les Simpsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11675103352740956102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7148778022173168989.post-65722916001733290322009-04-12T05:15:00.000-07:002009-04-12T05:15:00.000-07:00Let go of you journalistic instincts and let fly w...Let go of you journalistic instincts and let fly with what you feel. That's the beauty of blogging, it allows you to write things that are zany, unfair, unbalanced, insipid, and occasionally inspired. That's the problem with all the blogs here, your's, Dawn's, John's, etc... you guys never say anything anyone can argue with. BORING!!! If you're gonna blog news then post some links and fill the rest with your opinion dammit. It fosters connections -- conversations, news, updates -- but in this case it is between and with people with whom we've worked. Colleagues, managers, and managees... those that matter to our professional careers who may have moved on; perhaps we have moved on.

Two parts of LinkedIn are especially powerful: The "Questions" section and "Groups." We all need a little help occasionally and we all enjoy helping and supporting others. These two areas are very valuable and extensively used -- daily in most cases -- by the community for those purposes. To share our expertise and to gain from the expertise of others. Very powerful stuff.

A third potent feature is the "Profile." It is like a living, on-line resume -- downloadable for recruiters (head hunters) or HR. LinkedIn provides a simple URL so that users can point interested parties to their profile. Mine is http://www.linkedin.com/in/wwilliams, for example. Very simple, based on our name, and easy to remember.

As a consultant who prefers to live at home outside Canyon, TX but who usually works elsewhere, LinkedIn is a boon. Keeping up and staying in touch professionally while having coffee on the deck overlooking Sunday Canyon is priceless.

Personally, LinkedIn has brought job offers, answers to sticky questions, and many close connections with professionals. It is "networking" that works for those who work.

Not all networks are "social," some are "business." Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, and Ning are social networks. LinkedIn (and there are more) is a business network. Best advice: Keep the social and the business separate.

Potential employers are turning to these networks to "check out" candidates for open positions... Social and business networks. Since almost anything we do on-line is public, posting "something stupid" on-line is not a good long-term plan.

Bottom line: LinkedIn = Good for business / work. Do it.Smiling Coyotehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03680888005773413594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7148778022173168989.post-61678376280541010902009-02-28T16:02:00.000-08:002009-02-28T16:02:00.000-08:00Check out these three blogs (all are Amarillo blog...Check out these three blogs (all are Amarillo blogs):
http://jobsanger.blogspot.com/
http://blackamarillo.us/wp/
http://catsmeowjw2.blogspot.com/Ted McLaughlinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15035498835671628943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7148778022173168989.post-6630032795838804612009-02-28T11:34:00.000-08:002009-02-28T11:34:00.000-08:00UNITED STATESSECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSIONWas...UNITED STATES
SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION
Washington, D.C. 20549
FORM 10-Q
(Mark One)
For the quarterly period ended September 30, 2008
or
For the transition period from to
Commission File Number: 333-112246
Morris Publishing Group, LLC
Morris Publishing Finance Co.*
(Exact name of Registrants as specified in their charters)

We have purchased a software license agreement to replace the print edition newspaper in education (“NIE”) copies at all of our newspapers with electronic editions in order to reduce our net production costs.
